COLD STORAGE DEPOT

THE CHALLENGE

As Costco expands its European presence, the company is constructing a new 35-acre fulfillment center in Torija, Spain, some 45 miles northeast of Madrid. Part of the massive complex includes a 120,000 sq. ft. cold storage depot, which Barrier was tasked to insulate. Adding to the challenge: applying the polyurethane foam while numerous other construction processes were taking place.

THE PROCESS

With precise planning and coordination with other subcontractors, Barrier successfully applied 180,000 lbs. of poly foam to the ceiling and walls to effectively insulate the building in which temperatures range from 40°F to -10°F. We also applied a thermal barrier for temperature stabilization and fire protection.

THE RESULT

Costco’s new cold storage depot in Torija, Spain, reflects Barrier’s ability to help our client remain a leader in energy-efficient design and environmental responsibility.
