BARRIER INSTALLS WINNING SOLUTION FOR FAILED COSTCO ROOF
WHOLESALE/RETAIL WAREHOUSE STORE
THE CHALLENGE
Baking in the desert sun for most of each year, Costco’s store in Reno, Nevada, took quite a beating – especially the roof of the 165,000 sq. ft. facility. Its protective membrane of single-ply TPO (thermoplastic polyolefin) had failed, allowing heat, cold and precipitation to penetrate into the roof’s substrate.
THE PROCESS
Barrier’s technicians tore off the deteriorating TPO material, prepared the substrate and applied 2” of R14 polyfoam followed by a layer of coating. The foam and coating were applied under a tent to avoid overspray in the windy desert environment.
THE RESULT
The Reno Costco now has a new lease on life, with a leakproof roof that’s sealed against intrusion by heat, cold and moisture. The foam layer also provides a thermal barrier that makes it easier to keep the interior at a comfortable temperature year-round, saving energy and money.
